Many years ago, body carpet was very popular.
People couldn't afford full fitting carpet to their houses, so manufacturers wove narrower
width carpet, of limited colour range and people would lay this 'rug' in the centre of their lounge
and as runners up their stairs and hallways.
As choice grew, along with wages, and carpet became more popular,
manufacturers began to weave more expensive
carpet, with matching borders.
With the introduction of synthetic materials, it became easier and cheaper to
manufacture more colourful designs, which led to a lot more choice at cheaper cost.
Now, some of the best quality carpet is still made on these original looms,
with many intricate designs and colours of choice.
